NWMLS Overview
The Northwest Multiple Listing Service is a not-for-profit private organization which serves as a repository for gathering, assimilating, publishing and archiving all real estate transaction data by member brokers.  It is one of hundreds of regional MLS’ in the United States, most of which are governed by the National Association of Realtors. Member brokers operate under MLS rules of conduct, and are subject to disciplinary actions or expulsion for breaking them. MLS brokers do not have to be “Realtors”, though some brokerages require NAR membership of those who work for them.  In addition to data services, the MLS provides boilerplate Seller Listing Agreement and Purchase & Sale Agreement forms used by brokers in their transactions.

 About Realtors

The National Association of Realtors® is America's largest professional association, with over one million members who are involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries. Membership is voluntary, and not all real estate professionals belong, though some brokerage owners require it. Members are pledged to abide by the NAR's strict Code of Ethics, and are held accountable for their behavior. In addition, REALTORS® take extra classes and earn designations to prove excellence in various areas of real estate in order to provide Clients with the highest standards of knowledge, service and integrity.

The NAR also works directly on behalf of homeowners. With access to the latest national and state legislative issues, it actively lobbies on behalf of homeowners concerns, including efforts to hold down buying and selling costs and taxes, and protecting mortgage interest tax deductions.
